Sugess builds almost its entire catalogue on movements from Sea-Gull, the Chinese state watchmaker, and above all on the ST19 — the hand-wound chronograph descended from the Swiss Vénus 175. It is the cheapest way there is today to own a genuine mechanical chronograph.
History
The house appeared in the middle of the last decade with a simple idea: Sea-Gull makes good mechanical movements and sells them to third parties, so Sugess fits them into vintage-styled cases and offers them at a fraction of the Swiss price. The ST19 has a notable history of its own — China bought the machinery for the Swiss Vénus 175 in 1961, and that calibre is still in production — so a Sugess chronograph carries inside it a design from the forties that never stopped being made. It also fits the ST21 automatic and the ST2153 with moon phase.
