AVI-8

Founded 2011 · United Kingdom; manufactured in Hong Kong · Dartmouth Brands Ltd.

AVI-8 makes aviation watches named after British aircraft — Hawker Harrier, Spitfire, Lancaster — at an entry price. It comes from the same house as Spinnaker and is built by the same Hong Kong watchmaker.

History

The brand was created in 2011 inside Dartmouth Brands, in the United Kingdom, with a single well-drawn theme: British military aviation. Its collections take their names from specific aircraft — the vertical take-off Harrier, the Battle of Britain Spitfire, the Lancaster bomber — and their looks from cockpit instruments: large numerals, chronographs, aged leather straps. Manufacturing is handled by Solar Time Ltd. in Hong Kong, the same firm that builds Spinnaker.

Iconic models

  • Hawker Harrier II

After the vertical take-off fighter. The house's longest line.

  • Flyboy

An aviation chronograph with forties looks.

  • Spitfire

After the Battle of Britain fighter.

Worth knowing

Every collection is named after a real British aircraft, and the house treats it as an archive: the Harrier, the Spitfire and the Lancaster are three aircraft and three separate lines.
