Juliette Has a Gun

Founded 2006 · Paris, France · Romano Ricci

Romano Ricci, great-grandson of Nina Ricci, set up his house in 2006 with a name that is a statement: Shakespeare's Juliet, but armed. Not a Perfume, made from a single molecule, is his greatest success and his best joke.

History

Ricci founded the house in Paris in 2006, working with the perfumer Francis Kurkdjian on the first references. The brand is built on playing with the classical feminine — roses and musks — treated without sweetness or obedience. Its conceptual coup came with Not a Perfume, composed solely of Cetalox: a single material, no flowers, no woods, and all but imperceptible to some people. It is the commercial counterpart to what Escentric Molecules did, and it worked just as well.

Iconic models

  • Not a Perfume

Cetalox and nothing else. A single material with no company: the name is not irony.

  • Lady Vengeance

Rose and patchouli, dark; among the house's first.

  • Musc Invisible

Clean musk and fresh laundry, and a big seller.

Worth knowing

Ricci is the great-grandson of Nina Ricci, and his house is named after a Juliet who, instead of taking the poison, pulls a gun.
