Uncle Henry is Schrade's upper line: Old Timer's better sister. It was born in 1966 with stainless steel, Staglon handles imitating stag and brass bolsters, for anyone who wanted a finer traditional knife without going bespoke.
History
The line was driven by Henry Baer, then heading Imperial Knife, and carries his name. Against Old Timer, which bet on cheap carbon steel and a brown Delrin handle, Uncle Henry used stainless, brass guards and bolsters, and its distinctive mottled stag-coloured handle. For decades it was the graduation or birthday present in many American households. It followed the same fate as the rest of the house: bankruptcy in 2004, purchase by Taylor Brands, production moved to Asia and, since 2016, ownership by Battenfeld Technologies, of the Smith & Wesson group.
